Meter vs Anthropic’s tools for Claude Code

Anthropic offers Claude Code analytics in the Console and its own self-hosted gateway, the Claude apps gateway. Here is what each does, what it doesn’t, and when you’re better off with them instead of Meter.

Choose Anthropic’s tools if

  • knowing who spent how much this month is enough — the analytics are already in your account at no extra cost;
  • you need hard daily or weekly caps per person, SSO sign-in, or models from Bedrock, Google Cloud or Foundry — the Claude apps gateway does that;
  • your team runs on Team or Enterprise subscriptions — Meter doesn’t support them;
  • you want GitHub contribution metrics: PRs and lines written with Claude Code.

Choose Meter if

  • you need spend by repository, not only by person;
  • you want to know when an agent touched .env, pushed to main or rewrote history — and to approve such actions;
  • you want a dashboard and a weekly report, not YAML and an admin API;
  • you have no OIDC provider or Linux server for a gateway — hosted Meter is running in ten minutes.

Use both

Meter takes nothing away from the Console’s analytics: calls still go out with your team’s key, so Anthropic sees them as before. Meter adds repository breakdown, flags and approvals on top.
