Meter vs Helicone for Claude Code

Helicone is an open-source LLM observability proxy. Since 3 March 2026 it is part of Mintlify, in maintenance mode: security updates, new models and fixes keep shipping. Here is how it differs from Meter.

Choose Helicone if

  • you need LLM observability and request debugging with full logs;
  • you have many providers and applications, not only Claude Code;
  • open source you deploy yourself suits you, and maintenance mode doesn’t worry you.

Choose Meter if

  • you want a product under active development;
  • limits should be set by an admin on the server, not by a header from the client;
  • you don’t want prompt and code text stored;
  • you need spend by repository, flags on agent actions and approvals.

Use both

Helicone can stay the observability layer for your applications while developers’ Claude Code goes through Meter.
